Spiritual Formation (Discipleship) Retreats

The most common translations of the Great Commission at the end of Matthew have Jesus telling his followers to go and "make disciples," but in the original Greek the word disciple is used as a verb. In other words, a more literal translation would have Jesus telling his followers to disciple people. We are to be disciples and be part of the forming of other disciples.

Our mission as a retreat center is forming disciples, in other words spiritual formation. More specifically, our purpose is to assist pastors themselves in this personal process and come along side them as they lead disciple-forming congregations. A retreat center has a particular niche it can serve within the broader church-centered process of spiritual formation.

Central to how we think about this mission are what are often called the spiritual disciplines. Certainly a retreat center is an ideal place to pursue the disciplines of silence and solitude, but it also can be a setting for fostering the disciplines of study, prayer, meditation, and discernment, as well as for studying how other disciplines can fit into one's life.

Retreat Center Collaboration with Pastors and their Congregations

We are prepared to offer retreats under a variety of collaborative arrangements with pastors and their congregations. Options include the following approaches.
1.    We can offer one of our standard spiritual formation retreats (descriptions of a number of them are given below) for people from your church on a schedule that fits your situation.
2.    We can modify one of these standard retreats and present it as a team with the church pastor (or other leader).
3.    We can custom design a retreat to meet the needs of a congregation and present it ourselves or as a team with church personnel.
4.    In the case of smaller churches, we can offer one of our standard spiritual formation retreats for people from two or three churches whose leaders have an interest in the same topic.
5.    Our facilities are also available, of course, for a congregation that wishes to create and conduct a retreat of their own choice.

Regardless of the option under consideration, for churches in southeastern Colorado, members of the retreat center staff would be happy to come to your church to engage in joint planning or to present the retreat to a group of people you have gathered for the purpose of hearing about it.
